PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE FOR FEBRUARY 2012
Jay Hertz, President
Our February business meeting will introduce Frank Corey in his 2012 capacity as Touring Director. I may
be filling in for Frank if he is unable to attend. Frank or I will lay out his ideas for our 2012 tours, many of
which will be to entirely new destinations, including some new restaurants, at least one picnic, two overnight
tours, and an evening cruise. Frank (or I) also has ideas on touring etiquette, touring safety, car preparation,
and dealing with mechanical failures. So let’s start off the touring season with that nice presentation.
Our April business meeting will introduce Neva Coffee as our 2012 Director of Club Purpose. Neva will give
her insights into that important subject. I know Neva’s comments will be thought-provoking and may change
how you think of our mission as a club. The plan, still in the process of solidifying, is for Neva to share the
April program with Ed Boles from the City of Albuquerque, who is an expert on transportation in the early
years of our city, particularly Route 66. I had the pleasure of being led by Ed on a tour of the Santa Fe
Railroad shops in Barelas a few months ago and was thoroughly entertained and educated.

TIMES
On a more personal note, Helen and I are big fans of Turner Classic Movies (TCM). I love the old movies
for many reasons, but seeing old cars in movies of the thirties, forties and fifties is especially fun for me.
Have you ever noticed how many Fords are driven in the movies of that era? Flatheads abound but,
unfortunately you never get to see the color of the cars in black-and-white movies. With the exception of a
few gangster types (Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde) the people depicted in Fords are almost always the heros
of the movies. Let the bad guys drive their Packards, their big Buicks, and their Cadillacs. The good guys,
the sympathetic characters, almost always show up in Fords. And if that Ford happens to be a rag top, you
can count on the driver being good looking, honest and courageous. Not to mention the gorgeous woman
beside him. I don’t know about you, but when I drive one of my old Fords, I feel instantly cooler. If that holds
true for you, let’s get cool together this year on the tours we are planning.

JANUARY 2012 MEETING MINUTES
by Mark Williams, Secretary
Let’s start with a special note to all the committed men in the club; February 14th is considered one of the
most anti-anticipated holidays by women everywhere. What say you is February 14th...... VALENTINES DAY!
Cupid is calling you! Back to business. Thanks to Louie for coming by to check out the club. New Years
Day was a big hit at Joe Abbin’s house with a mix of good company, good food, and a unforgettable garage
tour. The Car Council reports that tentative dates have been set for this year’s car shows, all clubs picnic,
and the annual museum show will be centered around Chevys. And thanks once again to Joe for a
informative program on the problems that can be caused from something as simple as a clogged muffler.
JANUARY 2012 BOARD MEETING MINUTES
by Mark Williams, Secretary
Those attending were Larry Williams, Larry Azevedo, Jim Clements, Joyce Clements, Jeff Jackson, Joe
Abbin, Micki Hughes, Neva Coffee, Jay Hertz and Frank Corey. The only item of business was hammering
out a schedule of proposed activities for 2012.
FEBRUARY 2012 MEETING PROGRAM
Touring by Frank Corey
At our February program, you will learn about the 2012 touring schedule which includes two overnight tours,
some new destinations, and an evening cruise. You will learn about preparing a car for touring, the types
of extra parts and equipment to bring, and the new measures we will be instituting to assure that we can
safely rescue any vehicles that experience mechanical difficulties. The goal is to make 2012 the touring-est
year on record for our club. The presenter for the program is scheduled to be Frank Corey, our touring
director. Frank may be unavailable due to some scheduled surgery, in which case Jay Hertz will lead the
discussion.

MARCH 13, 2012 BOARD MEETING
By Jay Hertz
Hello, All. This is to let you know that we will be holding our March directors’/officers’ meeting of 2012 on
Tuesday, March 13, at my house, 8704 La Sala Del Sur, N.E. (phone 296-3137) beginning at 7:30 p.m. It
is near Wyoming and Candelaria. From that intersection, go east and take the second left-hand turn bay,
which is General Stillwell. Go to the end of General Stillwell, which is only about four blocks. Where it ends,
the house on the right is mine. It is a corner house with a stop sign on the property. The entrance is on
General Stillwell even though the address is on La Sala Del Sur. I will have refreshments. All members are
welcome to our Board meetings.
