President’s Message for November 2022                                                        Chris Joiner

I hope everyone has enjoyed the wonderful rain we have gotten lately. It wasn’t great for Balloon Fiesta, but we sure needed it. The group of us who went to Ruidoso for the weekend had an excellent time getting out and doing some sightseeing. Some of us even shook the cobwebs out of our old cars. We had some rain each day of the trip, but we didn’t have any issues, and nobody’s car ended up on the trailer. We had a full itinerary, but stayed on schedule and we were able to see everything we wanted. We enjoyed the drive to Ruidoso, taking the road less traveled. Then Saturday, we ventured to Alamogordo and learned about pistachios, White Sands, and space history. Sunday, we met up with the Model As and explored a little bit of Lincoln. A good time was had by all. Now, to look toward to club officer and board elections, and our club Christmas party will be here before we know it.

Minutes of the October 4th, 2022 Meeting

Beth Jackson, Secretary

The meeting was called to order by President Chris.  There were 15 members present and 2 guests – the presenter Sam Drake and his wife Melissa.  Treasurer Amy reported we are on schedule monetarily.  Joe Abbin was reimbursed for the post office box payment for the year.  Birthday and Anniversary greetings were extended and thanks were given to Beth and Jeff Jackson for providing refreshments.  Laurel McGlasson volunteered to bring refreshments in November as no one had signed up previously.

Old Business:  Jeff reported that there were 13 cars representing our club at the New Mexico State Fair.  The weather was lovely and a good time was enjoyed by all.  Joe Warren reported that Don Gutierrez had hosted a car show in Chilili with a good turnout of 30’s through 60’s cars.

New Business: At the board meeting on 9/14, the board came up with a slate for the November officer election.  There is a ballot elsewhere in this newsletter.  If you will not be at the November meeting, please take a moment to vote.  It was also decided at the board meeting that this year’s Christmas party will be held at George’s warehouse next to his clinic (Sunrise Veterinarian Clinic) on Saturday, December 10th.  There will be more information coming.

The weekend tour group to Ruidoso will be leaving Albuquerque 10/07 and returning 10/09.  Printed copies of the itinerary are available now.  There will be no club breakfast in October because of the tour.

Chris asked if anyone was interested in doing the Twinkle Light Parade on 12/3 at Nob Hill.  There was no show of hands.  Chris will have to find enough cars if he wants to enter as a club.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 1st, 7pm at North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center.  The topic will be women’s interests.

The next board meeting will take place at North Domingo Baca Center at 7pm on Tuesday, December 6th, with new and old officers.

Joe mentioned a ’40 Ford convertible street rod that is up for sale for an asking price of $43,000.  He believes that if it were cleaned up it would be worth $80,000.  Call Joe Abbin if you’re interested in making money.

Joe’s crime report again was very discouraging for the state of our lovely city.  Remember elections are coming up – use your vote to try to make a difference.

We had a good raffle, tasty refreshments, much visiting and then an interesting program by Sam Drake about SolAero Technologies Corp, who is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of highly-efficient radiation-hard solar cells.  These are used for space power applications.  They were recently acquired by Rocket Lab.  Thanks, Sam.

JOKES OF THE MONTH

Three friends from the local congregation were asked, “When you’re in your casket, and friends and congregation members are mourning over you, what would you like them to say?“

Artie said, “I would like them to say I was a wonderful husband, a fine spiritual leader, and a great family man.“

Eugene commented, ”I would like them to say I was a wonderful teacher and servant of God who made a huge difference in people’s lives.“

Al said, “I’d like them to say, Look, he’s moving!“

Smith climbs to the top of Mt. Sinai to get close enough to talk to God.  Looking up he asks the Lord. ”God, what does a million years mean to you?“  The Lord replies, ”A minute.“  Smith asks, “And what does a million dollars mean to you?“  The Lord replies, ”A penny.“  Smith asks, ”Can I have a penny?“  The Lord replies, ”In a minute.“

A woman was flying from Seattle to San Francisco.  Unexpectedly, the plane was diverted to Sacramento along the way.  The flight attendant explained that there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft the plane would re-board in 50 minutes.  Everybody got off the plane except one lady who was blind.  A man had noticed her as he walked by and could tell the lady was blind because her guide dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of her throughout the entire flight.  He could also tell she had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached her, and calling her by name, said, “Kathy, we are in Sacramento for almost an hour.  Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?“  The blind lady said  ”No thanks, but maybe Buddy would like to stretch his legs.“

Picture this:

All the people in the gate area came to a complete standstill when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with a guide dog for the blind!  Even worse, the pilor was wearing sunglasses!  People scattered.  They not only tried to change planes, but they were trying to change airlines!

True story .......
