2025 February President’s Message - Joe Abbin
In January we had a slide show in lieu of a talk by Larry Azevedo, who came down with the flu. He recovered and the February meeting will feature Larry’s talk on Henry Ford’s early years. As noted before, this was a fascinating period in Henry’s journey to found a worldwide automotive empire. He was an early innovator, craftsman, entrepreneur, and racer! Don’t miss this one!
The meeting will be held at our regular spot - the North Domingo Baca Multi-generational Center one block north of Wyoming and Paseo Del Norte. See you there!

“Don’t Fall in Love with Your Stuff” Joe Abbin
On Christmas Eve 2024, my beloved 2001 Ford F350 dually diesel was stolen from my driveway. After 24 years of pampering, it was gone! No trace so far. Almost certainly went to Mexico to be tortured.
Then on January 10, I was hit by a city ART bus in my 2019 Ford EcoSport which is a total loss. I’m lucky to be alive as the bus connected with my driver’s side door. No injuries to me or my passenger thanks to the steel beam in the door and the deployment of six airbags. Trauma for sure!
The only upside of all this is I have more parking spaces….haha. Although upset by the losses, they remind me that we are only caretakers of our stuff and that we often can’t call all the shots on their ultimate disposition, even when we are alive. I’m glad I’m alive making plans for what to do next.

Here's a nice colorful ad from the July, 1940, McCall's magazine. 1940 was a very good year for the fashion world - fitted bodices with a lot of variety in treatment and softly draped skirts. Hats were also very creative. Joyce Clements
