SEPTEMBER 6th CLUB MEETING PRESENTATION

Average 54 MPH for 553 Miles in a Model T 97 Years Old?

Yep! The Montana 500 has been held every year since 1961. It is an endurance run for nearly stock Model T Fords. Come to the September meeting and Larry Azevedo will discuss the preparation, engine tuning and the experience of driving a Model T at full throttle for 553 miles!

The meeting will be held at 7pm at the North Domingo Baca Mutigenerational Center, 7600 Carmel NE.

STATE FAIR CAR SHOW

V8 Day at the New Mexico State Fair will take place on Sunday, September 11th.  Please gather at the parking lot at Central and Alcazar (1 block East of Louisiana) by 7:45 am so we can drive in to the fairgrounds together starting at 8 am.  There will be no charge for those entering with the club.  We will drive in according to year of the car driven and will try to eat breakfast together after getting set up.

Let’s make a great showing this year!

President’s Message for  September 2022                                                        Chris Joiner

It looks like we have survived the heat of the summer. It is hard to believe September is upon us. The State Fair is just around the corner. I am personally looking forward to being out there on Sunday, 9/11. Last year, we were only able to get four cars there from our club. Let’s try to beat that number.
I am also really looking forward to our little tour in October. We will head to Ruidoso on Friday, 10/07 and return home on Sunday, 10/09. We are working on a fun itinerary that may include Fort Stanton, Pistachio Land in Alamogordo, White Sands, and the Space Museum in Alamogordo. We will be staying in Ruidoso both nights. I am also looking forward to some good food along the way. The La Quinta down there is holding a block of rooms for us until 9/08. Please let me know if you plan to go so I have an idea of whom to expect. Remember, there is no need to drive an old car on this tour. If you are more comfortable in a modern car, drive it. Come and have fun.

Minutes of the August 2nd, 2022 Meeting

President Chris called the meeting to order.  There were 19 people present.  Treasurer Amy reported that we have money in the bank.  Happy Birthday greetings were extended to Jeannine Kontny, Bud Hennessey, Pat Willan and Jim Clements.  A Happy Anniversary was wished for Roger Wilbur & Bobbie Benzaquen.  Thanks to the Abernathys and Amy and Beth for the evening’s refreshments.

There were no additions or corrections to the July meeting minutes.  Max Wade, tonight’s speaker, is under the weather and will be replaced by Jeff Jackson, who will tell us stories about his career in the oil patch.

The club will be attending the State Fair on Sunday, September 11th.  Meeting details will be in the September newsletter.

The club is planning a weekend trip to Las Cruces/Ruidoso October 7th through the 9th.  Details will follow.

The next club breakfast will be August 13th at 8:30am at the Range Café by Cottonwood Mall.  The next club meeting will be Tuesday September 6th at this same location.  NE Auto Electric has declined to speak so the program will be announced in the newsletter.

Joe Abbin will be speaking on crime in Albuquerque at the Old Car Club on Thursday at 7pm and at a Friday morning breakfast.  He suggested that we consider visiting the Police Museum in Police Headquarters and the Wheels Museum which is open by appointment.

We had a good raffle with jam made by George Abernathy and a model and Ford memorabilia donated by Betty Leupold.

Jeff Jackson then entertained us by telling stories of his years working and traveling domestically and internationally for Shell Oil Company.

JOKE OF THE MONTH

senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the
dealership. Taking off down the road, he floored it to 80 mph,
enjoying the wind blowing through what little gray hair he had left.
Amazing, he thought as he flew down I-94, pushing the pedal even more.

Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a state trooper behind him,
lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110,
then 120. Suddenly he thought, “What am I doing? I'm too old for this,”
and pulled over to await the trooper's arrival.

Pulling in behind him, the trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked
at his watch, and said, "Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is
Friday. If you can give me a reason for speeding that I've never heard
before, I'll let you go."

The old gentleman paused. Then he said, "Years ago, my wife ran off
with a state trooper. I thought you were bringing her back."

"Have a good day, sir," replied the trooper.
