JUNE 2ND MEETING – Dave Straub, Speaker

The June 2nd meeting will be held at our usual location, North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center, 7600 Carmel NE, at 7pm.Remember to bring your show and tell items and anything you might wish to give away for our raffle. Refreshments will be provided by Joe Abbin.

Dave Straub will be presenting at the June meeting. David is a nationally known miniature model builder. Nope, not the model you buy at Walmart. David uses actual navy ship drawings and fabricates everything on the ship to scale including the handrails on the stairs. In addition to his nationally known modeling expertise, he is also a historian. His presentation will focus on Early Aviation in Albuquerque. It will be an interesting review.

2026 June President’s Message – Jeff Jackson

Lettuce, hot dogs, hot dog buns, relish, pickles, potato salad, chips (lots of chips on sale - buy 2 get 3 free!), soft drinks, and of course watermelon. How to pick a great watermelon is beyond me so we guess and take a chance. Anyway, back to the Memorial Day picnic. Here in Texas it is hotter than desired but livable in the shade. Beth and I hope the V8 picnic was very nice. We talked to Joe this morning (May 25) and he already had the cake in his truck.
Surprise yesterday evening. A fellow called and said they were having vehicle problems but he was only 10 miles from our place. Did we have room for three horses overnight? Yes, we did. Such a nice couple. They got their truck fixed fast at the Dodge dealer and by 11:30 am they were pulling out. What was a nice surprise was they asked if they could clean the stalls. Nope, that's our job.
Good racing yesterday though I would have liked to see Katherine Legge finish the double.
And, we all remember the reasons behind Memorial Day. Bless our troops worldwide.
Meeting June 2nd will feature David Straub and a discussion of Early Aviation in Albuquerque. I hope he brings one of his world class models to show us. More on David elsewhere in this newsletter. Also, I’ve scheduled a board meeting for Tuesday, June 9th, 6:30 pm at Village Pizza in Corrales. Well, off to grill the hot dogs.

Minutes of the May Meeting

Jeff Jackson called the meeting to order at about 7 pm. He opened by relating his travails with our little friends at the New Mexico MVD. Just trying to get a simple license plate turned into a major ordeal. The fiasco was further compounded by the USPS, which managed to fold said license plate in half when delivering it, a week late. Sheesh.

· There were no May anniversaries or birthdays.

· Minutes from the previous meeting were approved by the members present and accepted.

· Joyce and Jim provided refreshments

· Treasurer’s report: nothing new, the member roster was sent to the national EFV-8 administration.

· The Museum show will be on May 17th, the theme will be “Cars Through the Decades”. Get there early, it fills up fast.

· Joe Baird will be out due to medical issues for the foreseeable future. Until he returns, we need a volunteer to attend the NMCC meetings once a month.

New Business

· Joe Abbin held a Rodder’s Reunion Cars and Coffee at his shop on May 9th.

· Jeff & Beth and Chris & Bill will be going to The Tulsa Capital Cruise (www.capitalofroute66.com ) on May 30th. So far there are about 2300 cars signed up. (4,000 as of now) Deadline for registration is May 15th.

· EFV-8 Memorial Day picnic will be on the 25th. It starts at 11 am and runs until 2 pm. Bring a side dish and/or a dessert/ There will be a 50/50 raffle.

· “Drive Your V8” day is June 20th

May 2026 meeting events

· Jerry Page gave a presentation on antique wrenches. He brought many examples from adorable tiny wrenches to one that was three feet long. Each one had a different backstory and history. Just like our cars.

· Tools seemed to be a theme this month;

o Don Gutierrez brought in handmade tools for show and tell. He made them from discarded broken tools at the shop he worked at. They were beautifully made using stick (SMAC) welding.

o Joe Abbin brought in tools for removing valve springs from flathead engines. This sparked an interesting story from Jerry of when he used such a tool on his first valve job. At least a valve spring flying across the shop doesn’t do as much damage as suspension springs…

Larry Bost brought in drawings made by Perry Key of old Albuquerque.

Meeting adjourned at approximately 8:40 pm.

June Breakfast

Club members and friends will be meeting for breakfast and conversation on Saturday June 13th, 8:30 am at an old Route 66 favorite, Vick’s Vittles. It is located at 8810 Central Ave. SE. Check it out!
