Because the first Tuesday of July is the fourth, our meeting will be held on the second Tuesday of the month, July 11th. The program will be presented by Robert Abernathy who worked at New Mexico Tech testing out explosions. He will talk about Bombing and Blowing Things Up! Hope many of you can attend.
July 4th Parade and Azevedo BBQ
The 4th of July parade will start at 10 AM, cars are to line up at 9:15 AM at Corrales Elementary. After the parade, the Azevedo's are hosting a BBQ w/ hot dogs and hamburgers and lemonade. Bring your favorite side dish, salad or dessert! Families welcome, bring your swim suits. Don’t forget your chairs, sunscreen, bottled water and hats. If you try coming north on Corrales Rd after about 9 AM it will be closed around the post office. Use the following back route to the Azevedo's: Turn east on Meadowlark (just before the service station), go to the end and turn left on the dirt road, make sure the ditch is on your left, continue north on the dirt road all the way to Hansen Rd and then turn right to 209 Hansen Rd.

President’s Message for July 2023 Chris Joiner
Wow, another month has come and gone. June has been a hectic month. It all began with our enjoyable trip to Las Cruces. I'm constantly in awe of the Globo Rojo automobile collection. The Farm and Ranch Museum was very impressive also. Although I had hoped for more attendees, the eight of us who went had a good time. We can now enjoy the Fourth of July. The Corrales parade and the barbecue at the Azevedo residence are events I am looking forward to. I hope no one opts to miss the enjoyable events because of the heat. Happy Fourth of July to all, and please stay safe.
Minutes of the June 6th Meeting
The meeting was called to order by President Chris. There were seventeen members present, along with our speaker (John Taylor) and 11 guests. The guests were from the Thunderbird club and the Poco Quatros Model A club. Chris welcomed all. In the interest of time for the presentation, some items were skipped over for this meeting, including the Treasurer’s report. Chris offered several birthday greetings. Chris thanked George and Jackie Abernathy for refreshments this evening. Joe Abbin gave a report on the club birthday picnic. He said there were 29 people in attendance and a good time was had by all. George reported on the Las Cruces trip. He recounted the trouble he had with his car, but reported that once again, a great time was had by all. Chris announced that donations for the raffle are always welcome. Chris mentioned that this month’s breakfast will be 6/10 at Hello Deli on Jefferson. There will be no outing afterwards. Chris also announced that our next club meeting will be on July 11th, 7pm at North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center. Chris reminded the club to mark their calendars for the State Fair. Our day will be Sunday, September 10th and we need at least 10 cars so start planning now. Joe did not provide a crime report. As far as old business, Joyce mentioned that the Museum Car Show had 294 paid entries and there are several leftover items available. We had refreshments and the raffle. John Taylor then gave a very interesting and informative presentation about the 2926 Steam Locomotive. He invited us all to come see it sometime.

Mary Gorenz
Mary C. Gorenz, age 92, who was loved by everyone who knew her, was called to Heaven by the Lord to join her late husband Lou, on May 24, 2023, peacefully knowing that her family was there to support her. Mary was born to Donald and Maude Faichney in Wichita Falls, Texas, September 15, 1930. She attended an all-girls Catholic School and Texas Tech. She met her future husband Lou and were united in marriage on April 18, 1952, in Mary's hometown. They enjoyed this bond for over 70 years.
In 1958 they moved to Albuquerque to fulfill their dream of raising a family. In addition to running the household, managing the kid's growth and education, she worked as a Loan Officer for SW Mortgage.
Mary attended Catholic Church and was blessed with a very long and happy life, while enjoying Beta Sigma Phi Sorority leadership and activities, knitting, caring for grandkids and great- grandkids, and friendly competitive bridge throughout her life. She enjoyed frequent RV-ing, boating, NASCAR trips and Christmas Tree hunting with family. As a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, she attended 2 games with family. Her most cherished moments were when the family gathered at her home for special occasions.
She is survived by her 6 children, Fred and Annette Gorenz, Don and Joyce Gorenz, Maura and Mark Dahrling, Debbie Winchell, Alan and Tracy Gorenz and Gail and John Sherwood: 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren with 1 more on the way.
Jokes of the Month
A kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child’s work. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was. The girl replied, “I’m drawing God.” The teacher paused and said, “But no one knows what God looks like.” Without missing a beat, the girl replied, “They will in a minute.”
One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, “Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?” Her mother replied, “Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.” The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, “Mommy, how come ALL of Grandma’s hairs are white?”
The children were lined up at in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note and posted on the apple tray: “Take only ONE; God is watching.” Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note: “Take all you want. God is watching the apples.”
