July 4th Parade and Azevedo Picnic

The Corrales 4th of July parade will start at 10 AM, cars are to line up at 9 AM at Corrales Elementary.  After the parade, the Azevedo's are hosting their annual picnic w/ hot dogs and hamburgers and lemonade.  Bring your favorite side dish, salad or dessert!  Don’t forget your chairs, sunscreen, bottled water and hats.  If you try coming north on Corrales Rd after about 9 AM it will be closed around the post office.  Use the following back route to the Azevedo's: Turn east on Meadowlark (just before the service station), go to the end and turn left on the dirt road, make sure the ditch is on your left, continue north on the dirt road all the way to Hansen Rd and then turn right to 209 Hansen Rd.

2025 July President’s Message - Joe Abbin

The July first meeting will be held at our regular spot, the North Domingo Baca Multi-generational Center one block north of Wyoming and Paseo Del Norte. Joe Baird will brief us on the conversion of a 6 volt electrical system to 12 volts for older vehicles like our flathead powered cars. The advantages include easier starting, brighter lights, compatibility with modern accessories like stereos, air conditioners, etc. The conversions for different subsystems require different approaches for lights, radio, instruments, etc. Find out all about it. See announcement in this newsletter.

Our other activity this month will be the July 4th picnic at Larry and Lorna Azevedo’s compound in Corrales (they have been buying up half the town). This is always a fun event with good food, lots of shade, and a chance to view the Azevedo’s car collection.

See you there!

Joe Abbin

Minutes of the June 10th (Rescheduled from the 3rd) Meeting

N.B. This ad hoc meeting was held one week later than normal due to the unanticipated (and unannounced to our club and others) closing of the Domingo Baca Center from June 2 – 6 for staff training. The meeting agenda skipped several of the normal reports, the raffle, and the break to allow more time for the Corrales church presentation and a video of the trailer theft from Joe Abbin’s commercial business lot.

Joe Abbin called the meeting to order around 7pm in classroom 5 (2nd floor)

Jokes of the Month

I just built an ATM that only gives out coins.  I don’t know why no one thought of it before: it just makes sense.

Why do crabs never volunteer?  Because they’re shell-fish.

I had a quiet game of tennis today.  There was no racket.

I poured some water over a duck’s back yesterday. I don’t think he cared.

Why did the electric car feel discriminated against?  Because the rules weren’t current.

How did I know my girlfriend thought I was invading her privacy?  She wrote about it in her diary.

My boss said, “dress for the job you want, not for the job you have.”  So I went in as Batman.

I gave my handyman a to-do list, but he only did jobs 1, 3, and 5.  Turns out he only does odd jobs.

Why should you never take sides in an argument at the dinner table?  Trick question.  It’s the perfect time to take sides because no one’s paying attention.  Bring Tupperware.

Self-Driving Cars Coming to a Town Near You            Joe Abbin

Elon Musk has just introduced self-driving Tesla taxicabs in Austin TX. The initial flat fare of $4.25 is a bargain, but you have to be invited to ride. Looks like these will eventually compete with the Waymo self-driving Jaguars in Phoenix, LA, and San Francisco. BTW several Waymo cars were summoned to riot locations in LA recently by Trump/deportation-hating rioters and set on fire. No witnesses!

THE LITTLE PRINTED ONES –

SO PRETTY AND SO COOL

From left to right: 1) The three-quarter sleeve is on the long side, and long sleeves are smart. This is the longish sleeve that is just as cool as a short sleeve. The blue dress has other things to recommend it, the cut of the bodice, for one. 2)  Short yokes that extend only part way across the shoulders are new. Those who would not “saw-off” their height by the straight shoulder yoke, can wear this kind as it appears in the printed dress above. In fact, it, and the panel, make one taller. 3) Dots are one print that still looks smart in a crowd of prints. The dress has dime dots, for they look newest. This pretty neckline is just a scrap of white pique cut into little revers that tie in a knot. And here are soft pleats again. 4) A woman’s dress that is chic, dignified, slenderizing and at the same time really youthful, is often hard to find. That makes one appreciate the printed white dress, every line of which is good. This dress is bloused at the back, which makes one look flatter below the belt. Dresses are from the July, 1940, McCall magazine.
