Larry is an interesting fellow. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas but lived in New Mexico from the age of 1 year through college. The family originally moved to Belen. That’s where he met the 1941 Ford pickup now in his garage. (The picture to the left is the ’41 parked in front of the old Leupold house – the way Larry remembers it best.) The family moved to Albuquerque in 1960. He has BS and MS degrees in accounting (sounds like treasurer material to me) from UNM. After college he joined the Air Force for his career living in 13 different places including Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force and came back to Albuquerque.
Larry and Pat have no children but “plenty of nieces and nephews to keep us busy”.
Larry got a Boy Scout merit badge on car identification. He said he spent a lot of time on old highway 85 looking at and identifying cars. The Boy Scout badge plus a lot of time working with his uncle repairing cars and farm equipment hooked him. He is a member of several car clubs and especially likes the friendly nature and large knowledge base in the Tumbleweed Club. Thanks, Larry.
Larry owns an eclectic assortment of vehicles besides the 1941 pickup. He has a ‘58 Apache pickup, a ‘67 VW, a ‘56 Studebaker Golden Hawk, a ‘77 Porsche, and a ‘69 Olds Delta 88. Larry also admitted to having a Harley Davidson motorcycle. He did not say what biker gang he was in but, I suspect the MFQGA (mature, friendly, quiet guy association). He says he doesn’t go out and look for cars ‘they kinda follow me home’. I suggest you ask Larry how to get your favorite car to follow you home!
Larry’s wife Pat supports his car hobby. Pat is a master gardener. Larry’s job now is to get Pat to give us a talk on gardening.
