2025 October President’s Message - Joe Abbin

The October 7th meeting will be held at our regular spot, the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center, one block north of Wyoming and Paseo Del Norte. Last month Joe Baird and Eddie Corbin revisited the history of Cormit Speedway in Albuquerque in the 40’s and 50’s.  This month Larry Azevedo will continue his series on Henry Ford, taking up where Henry started selling cars. Ford was a fascinating genius, and Larry is an expert on telling his story.

The Early Ford V-8 Day at the New Mexico State Fair on Sunday, September 7 was a huge success with 15 V-8s in attendance, no animal attacks, perfect weather, and no breakdowns! See pictures in this newsletter.

Our club is more than about cars. Having fun with people and their cars is why I am happy to belong. We are fortunate to have like-minded people who care and are willing to volunteer as officers of the club. They are the sparkplugs of the club! In this newsletter you will find a list of club officer candidates for next year to vote on in November. Thanks to all. By the way we will have a meeting presentation on sparkplugs next year. Oh boy, stay tuned…

2025 New Mexico State Fair Car Show

All in all, a great day at the Fair. We had 15 flathead-powered vehicles and great weather. One of our best showings in recent years! Thanks to all who participated. Special thanks to Gus and Debbie Van DeVelde for storing & transporting the stanchions. Everybody helped setting up and taking down the stanchions and the banner, a smooth operation. We had two new members, Rob & Michelle (T-Bucket with a flathead), and Kyle (1950 Mercury, looks like mine), a potential new member. We were also joined by former members Jim Whaley (who built the stanchions years ago), and Ray Calderon coming from Gallup.

Member David McLain was honored with a huge surprise by three judges – the 2025 State Fair Choice Award!   (See more pictures on our club website.)
