January 2019
This week I didn’t have to call anyone to write up the member of the month. Beth Jackson, our club member of the month, was born in Woodward, Oklahoma. She moved around Oklahoma and Kansas with her family until settling in Grants, New Mexico in 1967. Later that year she met Jeff. Jeff had the privilege of dating Beth through high school in Grants and college at UNM. Jeff finally wised up and Beth succumbed and they were married in 1976. They have two children: Nicholas, the oldest, lives in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife and two children, while Becky lives in Lindale, Texas with her husband and four children. With six grandkids Beth happily spoils them every chance she gets.
Beth wasn’t overly interested in cars until 1969. From that point on she smelled a lot of gasoline and grease on Jeff and became interested, then enthused, about cars. Initially hot Mustangs from the 1960’s, then flatheads. She is a forgiving sort allowing “what’s his name” some freedom to play with anything with an internal combustion engine. She has faithfully lived through motorcycles, boats, jet skis, dune buggies, and cars. She is an active quilter and very good seamstress. She made her daughter’s wedding gown. Beth stays active when she joins a club. She is tennis coordinator for the Albuquerque Newcomers Club, and serves as the newsletter editor and secretary for the Tumbleweed Club. In her spare time, she repairs antique quilts and makes new quilts.
