May 5th Meeting – “A Collection of Wrenches”

Jerry Page will share some of his huge collection of wrenches with accompanying stories. Jerry was kind enough to give some of our club members a tour of his collection and his interesting house after the last club breakfast. Who knew there were so many kinds of wrenches?

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 5th at the North Domingo Baca Multi-Generational Center. Please bring items for the raffle and your show and tell items.

Picnic

When: Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026, 11am-2pm.

Where: Village of Corrales Park (next to gymnasium), 500 Jones Rd in Corrales, next to the swimming pool

Yay, we’re having a picnic! We will be celebrating our Tumbleweed Group’s 51st birthday, the 63rd birthday of the Early Ford V-8 Club, the 124th anniversary of the Ford Motor Company, the 74th anniversary of the flatheads demise (bummer) and the City of Albuquerque’s 321st birthday! All dates are approximate.

The festivities begin at 11 am at the Village of Corrales Park, next to the Gymnasium. We’ll line up all those flatheads and celebrate each other’s cars. Then we’ll have chicken tenders, share some goodies and tie everything together with birthday cake. Water will also be provided, courtesy of the club! Wow, a free lunch (donations accepted)! Feel free to bring a side dish, a salad or anything else you’d like to share with the Ford party animals. Volunteers to help and clean up are appreciated. Let’s put on the biggest display of flatheads since 1953! Bring your friends!

We will have our popular 50-50 raffle with some nice prizes as well as the cash! Please feel free to donate items for the raffle.

2026 May President’s Message – Jeff Jackson

Things will be hopping in May. The museum car show is set for May 17th,(see flyer later in newsletter) and the annual club picnic looks to be a good one for the Tumbleweed Club. The club picnic/birthday party is set for May 25th at the Village of Corrales Park. Remember the club will furnish a main course and dessert. Please bring your favorite side dish. Drive your club car if possible, weather should be fine!
May 30th a few of us from Albuquerque (flatheads and model A's) will be in Tulsa trying to set a Guiness Book of World Records for longest car parade.
The May club meeting is on May 5th with the featured speaker being member Jerry Page. It should be an interesting show and tell of his extensive wrench collection.

Minutes of the April 7th Meeting

Jeff Jackson called the meeting to order at about 7 pm.

· April Anniversaries and birthdays were noted and are also in the April Newsletter.

· Minutes from the previous meeting were approved by the members present and accepted.

· Museum show will be on Sunday, May 17th, the theme will be “A Journey Through Time”, celebrating 40 years of the NMCC and 100 years of Route 66.

New Business

· Breakfast – Saturday, April 11th, Lantern Ridge Farm Store in Cedar Crest., with a tour of Jerry Page’s home & garage to follow.

· A signup sheet for refreshments for future meetings was passed, and all are now spoken for

· The Durango trip on October 9-11 was cancelled

· Jeff & Beth Jackson and Chris & Bill Joiner will be going to The Tulsa Capital Cruise (www.capitalofroute66.com ) on May 30th. So far there are about 2300 cars signed up. Deadline for registration is May 15th.

· EFV-8 Memorial Day picnic will be on 5/25.

· EFV-8 board meeting on 4/9 in Corrales

· Bill Icerman notified the club of the passing of Bill Scorah and the Celebration of Life on 4/11, from 3-6, at Sadie’s on 4th Street.

Presentations

· Alan Carlson gave a slide show presentation on his memories of Route 66. These included ‘50s &’60s era pictures of Alan as a child and several local businesses along Central Avenue (Route 66). Alan is a writer for the Route 66 New Mexico Magazine, published by the New Mexico Route 66 Association. www.rt66nm.org . He provided Route 66 magazines for our raffles at the end of his presentation.

· Antoinette from the Model A club presented information on the Santa Rosa “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” event on 8/7 – 8/8. Information to follow.

IMPORTANT OBITUARY

A SAD LOSS....

The club was saddened to learn of the death this past month of one of our most valuable members, Someone Else.

Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill.

Else has been with the club since its beginning. He did far more than a normal person's share of the work. When there was a job to do, a social function to attend, one name was on everyone's lips, "Let Someone Else do it."

It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the largest contributors of his time to the club. Whenever there was a need for volunteers, everyone just assumed that Someone Else would volunteer. Someone Else was a wonderful person - sometimes appearing superhuman, but a person can only do so much. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else.

Now, Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to the things that Someone Else did?
