MUSEUM CAR SHOW

Sunday, May 19th

The show this year will feature the "Roaring 20s" of 100 years ago. The front row will be reserved for pre-1930 cars, but the show is open to all cars, trucks, and cycles of all makes and models. If you have a vehicle of the 1920s and older (with the original engine), please e-mail to insure a space. Vintage dress is encouraged, but not required. Mountain Rd. is open this year, and you may enter on Old Town Rd. from Mountain. You may also enter from Lomas on 19th St. to Old Town Rd; Both east and west entrances to the parking lot will be open. Remember that it will be early, and you will be in a residential neighborhood. Enter peacefully and try to not annoy the residents with excess noise; we want to continue with our venue. Thank you, and we're looking forward to a spectacular show.

2024 May President’s Message - Joe Abbin

I will be our speaker at our May meeting at the North Domingo Baca Multi-generational Center. See announcement elsewhere in this newsletter.

It will be a double feature with a slide show of the cars at the Grand National Roadster Show and a demonstration of different chemicals commonly used for de-rusting steel/iron parts. Rust is the enemy of fine cars everywhere. What works to fight rust will be apparent in live-time soaking. Candidates may include Muriatic acid, Evapo-Rust, Coca Cola, and vinegar. Further suggestions welcome. Come on over and get smart!

Minutes from the April 2nd Meeting – Amy Joiner

The meeting was called to order by President Joe. There were twenty-five people present,

including one guest. The guest was Robert, brought by Mike Goodrich. Treasurer Amy reported that

nothing had happened since the last meeting, but that she is still accepting dues and we are still missing

a few. Joe announced nametags and mentioned that we are happy to order for anyone wanting one.

They are $10 each.

Joe offered individual birthday and anniversary greetings. Thanks to Joe Warren for our delicious

refreshments. The minutes from the March meeting were approved by acclamation. Joyce gave a car

council report. She listed a few upcoming events and said they can be found in the car council

newsletter. She had some flyers for various events. She also mentioned the museum car show is on

Sunday, May 19. The theme is the Roaring 20’s and the fee is $10.

The club breakfast in April will be Saturday, April 13th at Golden Corral on San Mateo at 8:30.

Joe announced that there would be a board meeting on April 9th at 7:00, most likely at his shop. A few

club members asked the club for certain parts they need for their cars. Joe had raffle tickets available for the coin club raffle.

For show and tell, Joe brought a couple of magazines to show off, with Barret Jackson coverage.

Max brought a “Tour Book” and put it in the raffle. He also brought a drinking gourd, which is a common

item in Arkansas where he grew up. Joe showed pictures of various Ford Specials. We then had an

exciting raffle and refreshments.

The program consisted of Joe Baird telling us the remarkably interesting story of the Galesville

Limited. There were some great slides to accompany the story. He did an excellent job, and it was quite

entertaining.

MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Jeff Jackson

Ralph Jeffrey Jackson and Fords.  Jeff went to elementary school in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  In fact, he and Joe Abbin probably crossed paths at Our Lady of Fatima at some point.     Jeff’s dad moved the family to Grants, New Mexico in 1967 which was fateful for the eventual meeting with Beth.    Jeff played basketball and football but admits his talents were more academic than physical.  His first engine rebuild was a Flathead-a 1952 6-cylinder Plymouth.  It was an engine for his dune buggy.  Also, it is when he learned all cranks are not the same.  His first real car was a 1966 Fairlane GTA.
Jeff met Beth via her brother, who asked Jeff to help him fix a 1962 Falcon.
Jeff dated Beth in high school and then he went to Notre Dame to college.  He quickly decided it wasn’t right for him. He returned to UNM, dated Beth and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
Jeff joined Shell Oil Research and Development to work on fuel. 1975 was first year for catalytic converters and the oil companies were working hard to find blends for those engines.    After several assignments with Shell US, Jeff joined Royal Dutch Shell.   Though he remained living in the US his 15 years with Royal Dutch Shell saw lots of international travel. After retiring Jeff and Beth moved back to Albuquerque and he began serious car collecting, in fact too much according to most folks.   He also ran into Max Glover.  Max forced us to go to a Tumbleweed club meeting and the rest is history.
